September 11, 2010Fish and Tenderloin FryTri-Lakes Lions Hall on Colony Ave. at Tri-Lakes, IN4pm-7pmPrices are $8.50 for adults, $4 for children ages 6 to 12, and children 5 & under are free.  The price includes an all-you-can-eat dinner, beverage, and dessert, with carry-out dinners available.  Proceeds generated from this fund raising project will go towards the Lions District 25B projects, and other local Lion's projects.  Additionally, they ask you to bring in canned food donations to support a local food pantry in Columbia City.

The festivities take place at Purdue Calumet Campus' Physical Education and Recreation Building located just east of Indianapolis Boulevard on 173rd Street. Join the American Heart Association, PHP, and Parkview Health at the 2010 Northeast Indiana Start! Heart Walk on September 18 at Parkview Field, 1301 Ewing Street, Fort Wayne. Heart Walk activities kick off at 8:30 a.m. and will include free health screenings, a kids’ zone, healthy snacks, vendor booths, and other activities. The event is free, although donations are encouraged. Proceeds will help fund lifesaving cardiovascular and stroke research and advocacy and educational programs benefiting the community. October 6-9, 2010Annual Fair Trade Oriental Rug EventTen Thousand Villages in Goshen, IN  Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit, fair trade store in Goshen, cares that there is very little opportunity for employment of women in rural Pakistani villages.  They continue to financially empower Pakistani women by hosting their Annual Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event October 6-9 at their store, 206 South Main Street in Goshen.  An Introduction to Oriental Rug Seminar will be held on Thursday, October 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the store.  The seminar will explain how knotting rugs is changing the lives of women and their families in Pakistan in addition to what makes a quality Oriental rug. The seminar is free, but please call the store for reservations at 574-533-8491.

October 18, 20, 22, 25 & 27Northeastern Indiana Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) fall trainingNortheastern Indiana CASA Office in Albion9am-4pmCASA provides a voice for powerless children involved in judicial proceedings, advocates for their best interests, and strives to improve their circumstances and quality of life.  After completing an application to volunteer and clearing our screening process, every CASA volunteer must complete 30 hours of training prior to being sworn in as an Officer of the Court.  This initial training series will take place at the Northeastern Indiana CASA Office in Albion.  For additional information, please visit the CASA website at neincasa.net or contact the CASA office at (888) 636-6101.
